This live audio mix was constructed from fragments of text, field recordings, vocal loops and electronic sounds. It reflects experiences of city-living during the pandemic, particularly that of running through wild, green urban spaces in the early hours of the morning. The piece also includes wider perspectives of redevelopment and abandonment in contemporary cityscapes and draws these musings together through the mixing of song, sound and text.
Running through Empty Spaces was performed on Friday 21st May 2021 at Wharf Chambers in Leeds, as part of the Crossed Wires event. A full recording of the set can be seen below:
